EPISODE 2
They shouted with joy when I opened my eyes and smiled at them.
I've lost my baby. They were too harsh on me. I remember feeling a sharp pain in my lower abdomen, and seeing blood ooze along my thighs.
I narrated to them how everything happened. Though I was sad, I was happy every procedure conducted on me was successful. I needed to spend more days at the hospital under strict observation. That would mean spending more money. Where will I get that money from? Even the one to settle the procedure has not come into the scene.
My facial expression changed as I thought of the bill. I picked my phone and requested I get my cheque book to sign for an overdraft. That would at least save me from the hands of these doctors.
"Thessy, hope you aren't writing that for your bill, because it has been settled. Ma-uuda passed by to settle it and gave us enough money for anything that comes up. She's busily preparing for the ceremony so she might be here tonight. All you need to do is to eat healthy, live healthy and sleep", Naa said.
Wow...she did what? She settled my bill? That was enough kindness.
Ma-uuda has been a close friend since we both met in level 100 in the tertiary institution, and she has been a solid rock for me.
She's been there for me even when I least expected it.
What then would prevent me from attending her wedding ceremony? By hook or crook, I would be there.
All I needed to do was to be out of the hospital.
My eyes were filled with tears as I thought of what to get for her as appreciation and well wishing gifts on that glorious day.
Nothing good came to mind. Maybe I will have to recover first, go to the gift shop and then, talk to the customer attendant. He or she would be in the best position to get me something nicer, if not expensive.
I prayed that I recovered quickly and made it to the wedding. Even if I wasn't too well, I only needed the strength to stand on my feet and grace the occasion.
Days passed by without me going home. All I was seeing were my friends, doctors and drugs. They were not pleasant to my eyes. I wanted to see my friend and no one else. My bride to be...
There I saw someone run to my room. He called aside one of my friends and whispered something into her ears. Whatever she was told was not disclosed to me. I guess it was more personal than I thought.
My friend came to me and said, "I will be with you shortly". I nodded and turned to rest for a while.
Few minutes later, a nurse came to me and asked, "are your people back? I thought you would be home by now because, they came to tell the doctor you needed to be discharged, so they have been told to go and pay your bills." Ooh that? Woooow...that's good news then. I smiled to myself. At least, my nightmares at the hospital will be over. I am finally going home to meet my house and have a cool shower.
